A place to feel more comfortable being yourself.
The tween years can bring changing friendships, bigger expectations, and a growing awareness of how you compare to everyone else.
Your daughter might replay conversations, worry about being left out, or feel like she has to get everything right. She might struggle to speak up, manage frustration, or explain why something feels overwhelming.
For girls with ADHD, anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or body image struggles, everyday school and social experiences may come with additional challenges. Some feel misunderstood. Others work hard to hold everything together and need somewhere they can let their guard down.
This tween girls therapy group offers a supportive place to explore those experiences, develop coping skills, and connect with peers navigating similar concerns.
Who may be a good fit?
This group may be helpful for girls in grades 5–7 who:
✓ Experience anxiety, overthinking, or frequent worry.
✓ Feel nervous in social situations or struggle to join conversations.
✓ Navigate friendship changes, peer conflict, or feeling left out.
✓ Struggle with self-esteem, comparison, perfectionism, or people-pleasing.
✓ Have difficulties with impulsivity, frustration, or emotional regulation.
✓ Experience sensory overload or feel overwhelmed in busy environments.
✓ Have trouble expressing their needs, setting boundaries, or asking for help.
✓ Would benefit from connecting with peers going through similar things.
Girls do not need to be outgoing or already comfortable in groups. A consultation helps us consider each girl’s needs, readiness, and fit with the other participants.
Skills we’ll build together:
Friendship skills & social confidence
Explore what makes a supportive friendship, practice starting and joining conversations, navigate conflict, and learn ways to express needs and boundaries.
Emotional regulation
Build awareness of emotions and signs of overwhelm. Practice responding to frustration, disappointment, and other big feelings with greater flexibility.
Understanding individual needs
Explore how attention, energy, emotions, and sensory preferences affect experiences. Practice communicating needs and identifying helpful supports without shame.
Anxiety coping skills
Recognize worry patterns, notice how anxiety affects choices, and practice taking manageable steps toward situations that feel challenging.
Self-esteem & self-compassion
Identify personal strengths, explore comparison and perfectionism, and develop a kinder response to mistakes and self-critical thoughts.
Flexible thinking & problem-solving
Consider different perspectives, navigate unexpected changes, and work through everyday challenges at school, at home, and with friends.
A mental health diagnosis is not required to join. The group is designed for tweens who could benefit from greater support, connection, structure, and opportunities to practice interpersonal and coping skills.

Meet the group therapist
I’m Nicole Ivelevitch, LCSW, founder of Temperance Psychotherapy and a Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist.
I work with children, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, and self-esteem concerns.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I enjoy incorporating creativity, humor, and activities that help girls explore real-life challenges while building connection and useful skills.
In group, my goal is to help participants feel understood, recognize their strengths, and practice new ways of responding to the situations that matter to them.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
This is a therapist-led group combining therapeutic discussion, coping skills, creative activities, and peer connection. Friendship and belonging are important parts of the experience, alongside work on emotional regulation, communication, and self-confidence.
-
The group welcomes girls with ADHD who are an appropriate fit, but it is not exclusively an ADHD group. Activities address shared concerns such as friendship stress, frustration, confidence, and emotional overwhelm.
It does not provide a comprehensive ADHD evaluation or replace individualized ADHD treatment.
-
The group provides opportunities to explore anxious thoughts, practice coping skills, and participate in supportive peer interactions. During the consultation, we will discuss your daughter’s anxiety and whether this setting matches her current needs.

You do not need to arrive with an existing diagnosis to inquire. The consultation and intake process help determine whether the group is clinically appropriate and what support your daughter needs.
-
Feeling nervous about a new group is understandable. We will discuss those concerns before she begins and support her in becoming familiar with the group. Participation can develop gradually, with encouragement that respects her comfort and therapeutic needs.
-
Start with a free consultation to discuss your daughter’s needs and ask questions. If the group appears appropriate, we will review the required intake process, paperwork, fees, and next steps before confirming enrollment.
-
Temperance Psychotherapy is an out-of-network practice. Depending on your plan and the services provided, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed; please check your benefits directly with your insurance provider.

It may be appropriate for some girls with sensory processing differences or a history of sensory processing disorder, depending on their individual needs.
Before enrollment, we will discuss sensory sensitivities, participation needs, and whether the environment can reasonably support them. The group focuses on emotional coping, communication, and self-advocacy rather than specialized sensory treatment.
